Exam Opening Times 1

This week a number of opening times and additional services are operating to give you extra support over the exam period.


The Scholar will be opening earlier all week, from 10.30am (Mon - Fri)


The ARC is a Chill Out Zone from 10am - 4pm (Mon - Fri) with a member of staff on hand to offer support and tips from 12pm - 1pm.


The Square and Square Balcony are open until 6pm (Mon - Fri).


The Square and Starbucks are open 10am - 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Our Students' Union - Top 10 in the Country!

The results of the 2012 Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey shows a 20-place jump to joint eighth (in a list of 105 institutions).

The results from the latest survey find us solidly in the top ten, sharing eighth spot with Reading, Birmingham, Southampton and UEA.

This success reflects the redevelopment of the Percy Gee Building, which was officially opened just over a year ago with the Square, the ARC, Nourish, 1923 and the O2 Academy venue being key highlights within the building!

The Square: 7am - 5pm
Starbucks: 8am - 5pm
Nourish: 7am - 5pm
Rymans: 8.30am - 5pm

ED: 10am - 4pm
ARC: 10am - 4pm
1923: 10am-3pm

Full Starbucks Barista Training provided, with prospects of advancement and supervisor experience whilst studying. Candidates must be outgoing, reliable and customer focused. Previous barista experience, whilst preferred, is not essential.

Union Strike Action

As you may be all aware Unions are going on strike today over cuts on pensions. As a Students’ Union we support these strikes and are working alongside UCU.

However, the Students’ Union remains open as usual for your Academic and Welfare needs.

You should have received e-mails or notification from your department as to whether your lectures/seminars are going ahead as usual, if not and are concerned get in contact with your department.

UNIVERSITY OF LEICESTER BUILDING WINS NEW ACCOLADES

Judges pay tribute to high standards
A University of Leicester building which recently underwent a £17m redesign has triumphed in two major awards events.
The Percy Gee Building, which houses the Students’ Union as well as a number of University services, was selected as winner of the ‘Best Large Commercial Development’ and was a finalist in ‘Best Education Development’ at the Local Authority Building Control Regional Awards. The award was presented in ‘recognition of high standards of design, construction and workmanship’.

Students' Union Wins Gold at NUS Environmental Awards

University of Leicester Students’ Union make for a greener society.


Students’ unions are leading the way when it comes to the Big Society, greening campuses and communities across the UK, according the latest findings of a national green scheme.

Union's Executive Officer Elected to lead NUS Environmental Activity

Owen Jones, Campaigns & Involvement Officer, has been elected to become the new NUS Service Environmental & Ethics Chair.

This prestigious position places Owen on the NUS Service Board, the commercial arm of the National Union of Students, and the NUS Society and Citizenship Zone, as well as overseeing all environmental and ethical aspects of the national union.

Response to University decision to raise tuition fees to £9,000

The University of Leicester Students’ Union has campaigned to maintain the cap on tuition fees and the decision to raise tuition fees to £9,000 is very disappointing. The Students’ Union still remains angry at the decision to raise the tuition fees.
With the new fees system there will be more students that are less inclined to come to University. Even though students will not have to pay any fees upfront the amount payable is extensive and students will be repaying for a long period of time.
