Event: Volunteering Fair
When: Thursday 17th November 2011, 12-3pm
Where: Queens Hall, Students Union

Volunteering is a fantastic way of meeting new people, developing your skills and making a difference to your local community. Whether you can give an afternoon, a week or only an hour, you can find a project and that suits your availabilities and interests. We have a fantastic mix of local, national and international organisations attending.  You can even begin planning a gap year abroad!

Rate your landlord!

Suzi Burtenshaw, your Welfare and International Officer, is carrying out this survey to hear about your experiences with the accommodation that you lived in during 2010-2011. She will use the results to find out the key problems in the accommodation sector and will make positive recommendations to landlords and letting agents for how this sector could be improved. As well as this she will be publishing the results to students to help them when house-hunting.

Police warn students following car insurance scam

Police are issuing a warning to students around the country after learning of a new car insurance scam where students can find themselves out of pocket and, sometimes, under arrest.

The warning is particularly relevant to international students after several were targeted in a recent scam in the Sunderland and Northumberland areas. The con takes advantage of students who ask a third person for help to arrange discounted car insurance. Students hand over money and are given a cover note, believing they have legal car insurance. Then, unbeknown to them, the third person cancels the policy within the cancellation period…

POLICE WARNING

A male has been seen again in Victoria Park near to the pond area and recycle bins.

He is guilty of indecent exposure and was seen last on Sunday 14th of May 0920 hrs by a University of Leicester student.

The suspect is is described as white, 30-40 years of age, 5ftt6, chubby build, double chin, unshaven (dark stubble). He was wearing bright ocean blue beanie hat, light grey hooded top with a black sports brand across the front possibly ‘lonsdale’ and black or dark blue tracksuit bottoms.
