You said...We listened...

...We acted.

I am pleased to announce that as of today, Tuesday 24th January 2012, a new Students’ Union policy will be in effect. This new policy, will mean that the Students’ Union building will be re-dedicated for the sole use of those in the University of Leicester community – that is primarily, yourselves and your fellow students.

We have listened to your concerns – as expressed through recent surveys, your feedback to the Executive and the evidence of our own eyes - that the Square in the Percy Gee building has, in recent months, become crowded with visitors who are not from our University community.  We have tried to be welcoming – however the net result is that there is now not enough space left for our members, especially at peak times in the day.

Our goal is to ensure that we can provide resources for students, friends of students, alumni and staff of the University and that the environment is a welcoming and pleasant space to relax, meet friends, study and take part in student group activities.

Deploying the new policy will mean that we will need to challenge some of our visitors about their status and their right to be in the building. Signage will be displayed around the building but over the next few days and ID cards will be requested by members of security, when we believe the visitor should not be in the building.  We will exercise common sense when making approaches to people – so as not to embarrass those we know to be welcome.

We hope that you will feel that this is a positive measure ensuring that you continue to have an exceptional experience in your Union.

Your feedback and support in implementing the policy is most welcome.

With love,
The Exec.
