About LUTheatre

For those that love theatre and performance in all its forms, welcome to Leicester University Theatre. As one of Leicester University’s oldest societies, LUTheatre has given the student body the opportunity to direct, write and perform in plays and a variety of pieces throughout their academic life. LUTheatre is open to all, whether basking in the limelight and getting on stage or joining the dynamic technical crew.

LUTheatre put on, on average, seven productions a year, ranging from Shakespeare plays to Musicals to plays written by our own members. LUTheatre also has two sister organisations in the forms of Proteus Productions and Open House. Fortnightly, writers can exhibit their ten minute sketches in Proteus with a random mix of actors and directors. This is permanently housed in the Richard Attenborough Centre. Open House sessions, also occurring on an alternate fornightly basis, provides workshops where everyone can meet, relax, play drama games and improve their performing skills whilst building on their confidence. Or perhaps join our show choir, The Muses, meeting weekly to work on big group and smaller group performances.

LUTheatre is a dynamic society, with a full calendar and range of events throughout the year that all can participate in and enjoy.
