Student vote on the approach that the NUS must take in the higher education funding debate.
Location: Percy Gee
Leicester NUS is holding a referendum to determine the political line they are taking regarding funding for higher education. The choices are free education, keep the tuition fees cap or a call to introduce graduate tax.
Keeping the cap might seem like the safest option however this might be undermined by the fact that Lord Browne has been commissioned to lead an independent review into tuition fees and early indications seem to suggest raising the cap to £7000 a year.
The proposal for a graduate tax is possibly an even more unfair approach than tuition fees. Like any tax, they are subject to increases every year from the Chancellor meaning you could end up paying far more under this system than with tuition fees. Most importantly, both these options charge for a service that we believe should be universally free.
The option for free education is often met with doubt especially in the wake of the recession. We believe however, that there is still more than enough money available to fund this option. Currently, £120billion exists in uncollected tax. Furthermore, corporation tax is being cut despite the fact that these businesses are set to benefit from an educated workforce. Surely they should be paying their share.
Vote against fees and taxation on Thursday and help to build a movement of students demanding a right to free education.

The first Proteus of the year!
19.00 – 21.00
Location: University Film Theatre in the Attenborough building.
It’s bold, it’s brash, and it even occasionally makes statements that leave you pondering your existence.
The basic idea behind Proteus is that a group of theatre enthusiasts meet every two weeks, and split into groups of 3-10 people, with each group consisting of a writer, a director and a Mötley Crüe of actors. The groups then write, direct and rehearse a 5-10 minute piece that they perform to an ever-growing audience (in excess of 100 people some weeks) two weeks later. The whole process is then repeated ad infinitum (or at least until the end of term).
There is an opportunity to get involved at the end so you can try your hand at acting, directing or writing.
Come along and watch…you never know what is going to be performed before your very eyes!
History of Art Society Bar Crawl in fancy dress!

We’re all going to be in fancy dress, the theme is artists! So you can either dress as a real-life artist such as Dali or Warhol, or just as a generic ‘artist’ with a nice beret and some paint splatters lol!
Tickets will cost £5 and will be on sale in the next few days, we’ll let you know where/when ASAP!!

hey girls.
time to get ourselves down to DMU for the Riders basketball game this saturday. Meet at 6pm at the charles wilson steps and we’ll sort out transport from there to get to DMU for 6.30pm.
Kick off for the game is 7.30pm, and should last till about 9pm.
Freshers- Please try and attend so you can see what we do at the game. Basically just sit in the stands and watch this game and next game we’ll include you in the stunting if you feel confident enough. (tickets normall would be £11!)
Returning Cheeries- Please confirm urself to the event so i can start coming up with stunt groups and let you know by thursdays practice who will be doing what. Full uniform and poms as always.
Basically we will be going on at 2 time outs and at half time as well. just alittle stunting and one big group stunt.
lots of cheer love,
Nicole xxx
