The album is a challenging listen, but followers of the band from the last ten years have probably come to expect this by now. Constantly treading new ground, never staying within their comfort zone, the band make this album a rewarding experience with some genuinely surprising elements fitting nicely alongside some trademark motifs. Most noticeable is how much better this album is than 2006’s disappointing A Matter Of Life And Death both in terms of songwriting nous and production value.
If you’re looking to discover Maiden’s music this isn’t the album to do it with, largely because of the lengthy nature of the songs.
