Dan Flatt - Academic Affairs Elect

Hey everybody, I’m Dan Flatt and I will be your Academic Affairs Officer for the 2012/2013 year. I am 22 and am originally from Milton Keynes. My undergraduate degree was BA Modern Languages with Management. I first got involved with the Students’ Union in my second year attempting to try and close the German department from closure. Although I was unsuccessful, I soon became hooked on the Students’ Union. I have formed a couple of large societies, the Modern Languages Society and the Language Exchange Society and have loved being able to meet new people from all over the year.

I am approachable, enthusiastic and proactive. I cannot wait to help providing the ‘Exceptional’ student experience in my year of office. Make sure you get in touch if you need anything, my door will always be open :-)

James Farndon - Campaigns & Involvement Elect

Hi Everyone! I’m James Farndon and I’ll be your Campaigns and Involvement Officer next year. My role will be to oversee the democratic structures of the Union and run the Union’s priority campaigns.

My aim is to run campaigns that students are really passionate about and I want to increase Union engagement with all students, whether they are undergrad, postgrad, mature or a distant learner. My first campaign will be one directly chosen by students, a first for Leicester! I’m currently finishing my BA in History and Politics and am an active campaigner for human rights and social justice. Over summer I’ll be busy improving how the Union engages with you and planning some exciting campaigns so if you have any thoughts, questions or an idea for a campaign you’d like to see the SU run don’t hesitate to get in touch at jwf6@le.ac.uk.”

Maryna Danny - Welfare & International Elect

Hayley Symington - Activities Officer Elect

I’m Hayley and I’ll be the new Activities Officer in 2012/2013. I’m a bit of a self professed nerd and get very excited about Shakespeare, going to the theatre, period dramas and that kind of thing. I’m really into music at the moment too; I recently started going to loads of random gigs and finding new bands which feeds into the radio show I present called Haywire.  I enjoy journalism too; I’m editing our University newspaper at the moment, and I have been working closely with other magazines around the city and have gained a lot of insight into the world of media which I think will really support our student media groups next year. I have lots of drive for the long-term development of all of our student groups though, and have big plans for the year ahead, so keep your eyes peeled for big changes! I’m striving to be a really approachable and hands-on executive, so always feel free to drop me an email to hs175 or pop in to let me know what you’re working on, and how you’re getting on!
