Hello! I'm currently the Arts & Culture Chief Editor for the Leicester Student Magazine, and now I'd like to step up to the committee. Zainab, Ella and Holly have already done a fantastic job and I want to help by bringing my experience and enthusiasm to the team. I've been writing for student newspapers since sixth form and, last year, became a Staff Writer for the Queen's University student newspaper whilst on my year abroad, which has been publishing since the 1800s. I also have editing experience thanks to a placement with local publishing house Dahlia. So far I've contributed to all the magazine's sections and hope that, as Vice President, I'll be able to grow our presence on campus and contributor base.
As Vice President I'd like to:
- finalise the house style so all of our writers will have more support when submitting articles
- collaborate with the Union to promote our society across campus
- continue the guest lecture series and collate some career packs for our members to browse, if they're interested in pursuing a career in journalism
- strengthen our editorial team with some slight restructuring to place emphasis on line editing and content editing, so no one person is overwhelmed with responsibility
- work with Zainab, Ella and Holly to expand our community even more!
- grow our social media following so our articles get a wider readership
What experience I can bring to the committee:
- Staff Writer at the Queen's Journal for a year
- Editorial intern with Dahlia publishing for sixth months
- English Society social secretary and treasurer (2018/19) in my second year
- Final year course rep for English undergrad BA
Given my previous role on the English Society committee, I have experience with working and communicating with the Students' Union already, and working relationships with most of the School of Arts staff. I'm looking to become a journalist once I graduate and this last year I'd like to get stuck into the magazine committee to garner some more experience and support all of our fantastic contributors. Hopefully you guys would like to see me on the committee too!
