Be the first point of contact for our students, visitors and guests in dealing with any enquiries. You will provide a friendly & efficient customer service role for the Students’ Union.

Responsibilities Include: 

Reception Duties

  • To deliver excellent reception and customer service at all times to those calling, emailing or visiting the Students’ Union for help and assistance in a professional and courteous manner, referring more complex queries to an appropriate staff member
  • Assess and maintain appropriate electronic databases.
  • To be able to signpost to services across the Students’ Union, University and Community effectively as and when required.
  • Provide general and administrative support for all Union Events, including but not limited to holding a stall, Officer campaigns, Freshers, Re-Freshers, and SU Awards, as well as larger-scale community events. This may include some working outside of 9:00 – 17:00 hours. 
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality, work within safeguarding guidelines and adhere to General Data Protection Regulation at all times.
  • To work with the relevant Students’ Union teams to improve the signposting provision, their social media presence and website materials as when required.
  • Support and advise on projects being delivered by Union departments and Officers as when required.
  • Engage in and contribute to supervision meetings and team meetings alongside attending any relevant training sessions. 
  • To have a good knowledge on each department within the Students’ Union and be able to correctly answer student queries by following each communication procedures.

University Communications

  • Liaise with University staff and other relevant external parties to share/seek information in relation to Students’ Union work and specific projects.

General Activities

  • Be required at all times to develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, students, contractors, external stakeholders and all other individuals they come into contact with in the course of their duties.
  • Maintain at all times any confidential or sensitive information they are privy to in the course of their duties, which must not be shared with any unauthorised person unless expressly permitted to do so.
  • Conform at all times to LSU Policies and Procedures with close attention being paid to Equal Opportunities, GDPR, Data Protection and Equality & Diversity.
  • Be flexible and adaptable where necessary in order to meet the ongoing service needs of LSU. 
  • Carry out any other reasonable duty requested of them as appropriate within the parameter of their role.
  • Be aware of, and at all times comply with, all relevant policies and procedures and all relevant statutory responsibilities including fire safety arrangements, health and safety issues including moving and handling, COSHH regulations, etc. 
  • During busy event periods, for example, Welcome Week and Open Days you may be asked to act as an Ambassador for the Students’ Union under different departments. This would be monitored by departmental managers to ensure you are not exceeding 20 hours a week.
  • Normal working hours are between Monday – Friday, 10 am to 4 pm; the maximum hours you can work during undergraduate term time is 20 per week, this should include any working hours outside of the Students’ Union, per regulations of the university. The Students’ Union may offer additional working hours during undergraduate vacation periods if needed.
  • Expectation minimum available hour of 10 each week unless requested and approved by the manager
