Welcome to Leicester Dancesport!
We are the Ballroom and Latin Society for Leicester. You don’t need any dance experience at all, we welcome all levels. So whether you’re looking to try something new or continue learning to dance, we’re the people for you!
Lessons are held every week, and we are extremely lucky to have 2 professional dancers as our fabulous coaches. The classes they teach range from beginner to advanced, as well as social classes, where all abilities come together for one class. Many members use the routines learnt in classes for competitions which we attend throughout the academic year. This means we get the opportunity to regularly travel across the country to compete against other universities. Our run of competitions begins right here in Leicester, where we have the privilege of holding the first competition of the academic year, Leicester Friendly Competition. It is a great way to kick it all off, particularly for any new dancers or those who are getting back into the swing of it all, as we like to make it as fun and relaxing as possible for everyone. Later in the year we are lucky enough to get the chance to travel to the home of Ballroom, yes Blackpool, for a most fabulous weekend at the University Nationals, held in The Winter Gardens.
Competing is not compulsory for any members of our society at all. The main thing is we want you to enjoy your time on the Leicester Dancesport team and we understand competitions sound like a daunting experience. So don’t worry if it’s not for you, classes are no different for competing or not, you still get to dance all the same and also get to hang out with the rest of the team. There are also more chances than just classes and competitions to things together as a team. We hold socials regularly as something a bit different for everyone to do. It’s also a great chance to meet other members you may not usually meet and get to know everyone better. Our members are so welcoming and supportive, and we look forward to you joining the team.

In the 2019/2020 Academic Year we were the winners of the Student Group of the Year: Sport and Team Leicester, and we also won Offbeat at the IVDA Nationals. The following year we were finalists for the Sports Group of the Year award.
