Welcome to the University of Leicester Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu society!
Whether you've never heard of Brazilian jiu jitsu or train at a competitive level, we have a place for you!
Here at the Brazilian jiu jitsu society, you will learn arguably the most effective grappling martial art used in self-defence and mixed martial arts. Which involves taking your opponent to floor and establishing ground control and positional dominance to submit your opponent via a choke or joint lock.
We train both gi and no gi here at our society. When training in gi, we learn how to use grips for throws and sweeps as they do similarly in judo and to gain a positional advantage on the ground over our opponents while utilising lapels and sleeves for positional ground dominance and submissions. Whereas in no gi (often called submission grappling) there are no grips, so for takedowns practitioners use a wrestling style and the aim is the same in gi, where you try to get ground control and submit your opponent.
Our society aims to build a warm, welcoming environment where you can learn a new skill in a safe and positively constructive space whilst improving physical fitness and enhancing mental wellbeing.
