Black Sports Player Recognition 2021- nominations open!
Like last year, we are looking for black sports players (current students or alumni) to be showcased via a placard in Percy Gee, or on social media. Team Leicester Black Athletes Showcase (2020)
Mya Hanson
Club: Cheer and Stunt
Contribution: Mya pushed through multiple training sessions and worked through the pain after a concussion. Although Mya had to be taken out the first competition, she returned for BCA and absolutely smashed it, being part of the winning team. She’s also successfully been elected Ruby Coach!

Ellese Blankson
Club: Cheer and Stunt
Contribution: Ellese is an incredible cheerleader. She started cheer and stunt in the development team, and since then has progressed to a Level 3 team and won the title of National Champion. Ellese is hard-working, skilled and an asset to the club. She demonstrates all of the Panthers values; athleticism, drive and enthusiasm.

Sean Raisi
Club: Dodgeball
Contribution: Sean has been a fantastic member of dodgeball over the last year who regally comes to training and really misses a social. Sean was part of 2nd team last year and helped them to a joint 3rd place finish in the Midlands League 2 where his fantastic dodges gave Leicester the edge in some challenging games. Sean has become an integral member of the club in his first year at UoL dodgeball. His natural talent gained him a place in our league teams straight away, he is a fantastic team player and always brings a positive energy and a jovial spirit to training and league games alike. Sean brought his enthusiastic energy to socials as well; his charisma lends a real sense of family to the club and he has made new members that joined throughout last year feel part of that family. Sean embodies the sense of comradery and family spirit that exists within our club, he a strong sportsman, and great team player that makes league games, training, and socials all the more fun with his charisma and kindness.

Eniola Usman
Club: Futsal
Contribution: He has been one of the first teams most vital players, having never played Futsal before he has come leaps and bounds and is now a very capable Futsal player and has a very bright future in the sport. He is known for scoring all penalties, being extremely athletic and being a vital component of our squad.

McGerald Woha
Club: Men’s Football Club
Contribution: McGerald has been an outstanding contributor to the football club. Constantly playing to the highest performance levels with the best attitude on and off the pitch. McGerald has excel in every element of his game and in his debut season at the club, he was swiftly introduced into the 1st team. Not only was he a one of two freshers that made it in the 1st team last year, but he also did it being a year younger than everyone else (17 years of age). The lads got an exciting future at ULFC.

Club: Netball
Contribution: She has been nominated by all committee members for her dedication to the club in watching and supporting other teams matches, being an amazing and caring team captain, looking out for her team and everyone else who is involved with netball and her commitment to socials!

Oli Hudson
Club: Running and Athletics
Contribution: Now an alumni member, Oli was UOLRAC’s first ever field captain. Throughout his time in the club, Oli really helped to develop our growing field squad by encouraging wider participation and integrating the field team within the club. Not only this, Oli was a great sprinter and was always showcasing his talent at competitions whilst supporting his team-mates.

Tope Alabi
Club: Volleyball Club
Contribution: He has been with the club for 3 years now playing for M1 as a middle blocker, currently the club captain/president and was previously vice-president. Nominated twice for sportsman of the year, but third time is the charm.

Club: Volleyball Club
Contribution: Has now graduated, a member of the club for 3 years playing for M1 as an opposite. Also was the club treasurer.
Strengths: Left-handed power spiker and versatile.

Club: Volleyball Club
Contribution: She has played in W1 as a middle blocker for 2 years and was the club president as well as team captain.
Strengths: An unstoppable serve and back court attacks

Lynda Nnamchi
Club: Volleyball Club
Contribution: Recently graduated, she played with W1 for 2 years and was the team captain. Played as a wing spiker and was a one-woman army at times

Jordan Diaso
Club: Lacrosse
Contribution: Dedicated, motivated and hard-working, Jordan is the quintessential team player. He always gives 100% on the pitch, focussing hard on improving his own game whilst inspiring others to push themselves; All with a smile on his face. Outside of Lacrosse he is no different, always looking out for his teammates. ULLAX wouldn’t be the same without Jordan!

Paige Furlonge-Walker
Club: Lacrosse
Contribution: Since Paige joined Lacrosse she has quickly become a core part of the club. Driven and motivated, she transformed our social media pages last year, whilst at the same time working extremely hard on organising multiple charity events, raising hundreds of pounds for YoungMindsUK. This year is no different, becoming Women’s 2nd team captain she is already making big changes for her team, not only inspiring her teammates but all those around her. Paige’s passion and hard work is unmatched and we are very grateful for everything she does!

Contribution: Temi is an incredible woman, who shows strength and power. She is caring, friendly and supportive. She’s always the first one in the team to check up on anyone else, she’s passionate and strong-willed. We couldn’t ask for a better teammate than Temi
