Blended Learning Benchmark

The Blended Learning Benchmark is now here! Originally called the Blended Learning Standard, this document highlights what is expected of students, staff, and schools regarding Blended Learning.

Topics for the Blended Learning BenchmarkEducation at the University of Leicester is based on the active participation of all parties. By following the Benchmark, we will work together to achieve successful Blended Learning. Please note- some of the points in the Benchmark might not be relevant to every department as each department is unique. Points of discussion have been included to ensure that individual course issues related to blended learning may be addressed.Staff: • Good quality and relevant lectures with a clear schedule of release dates. • Clear communication regarding module content, timetables and assessments. • Support to students outside of classes, via personal tutors and office hours. Students: • Provide feedback to Course Reps to ensure needs are being met. • Engage with online resources, personal tutors, and course content. • Regularly check University emails, as this is where a majority of information will be communicated.

Schools: • Clear planning and good communication about any further COVID disruption, including lockdowns. • Recordings of lectures, or an equivalent such as annotated lecture slides. • A balance of in person and online teaching that is based on the academic needs of each programme, and that is clearly explained to students. • Clear structure and signposting for modules, programmes and wider plans. Everyone: • We all must be patient and kind as we adjust to this new type of normal.Points of discussion for SSCs and the student population: • How are you finding the balance of in person and online teaching? • Have you met your personal tutor yet? • Are you finding that module and programme structures are clear? • Are you clear about what assessments you need to take and what they involve? • Do you have any further concerns or questions relating to the points covered in the benchmark? • What is working best about your current programme?
